Another Way There

We can follow a plan carefully and still arrive at a closed door. For a while, it feels as though every earlier step has been wasted. But a changed route is not always a lost journey.

The course runs on evenings we now have to work. The room we wanted is no longer available. A project needs more time than the week can hold. Ordinary life keeps changing the conditions after we have made our promises.

It is tempting to defend the original plan simply because it was ours. We have explained it to people. We have pictured the ending. Changing it can feel uncomfortably close to admitting we were wrong.

Yet the thing that mattered may still be possible in another form. Learning more slowly. Meeting somewhere else. Making a smaller first version that we can actually finish.

Not every obstacle is a lesson, and not every delay becomes a gift. Sometimes it is just inconvenient. We can be disappointed without deciding that disappointment must have the final word.

The next step does not have to resemble the one we expected. It only needs somewhere honest to begin.
